Galatians 5:16 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.
All God's power, the same power that hung the stars and moon, resides in us and gives us the strength to fight the flesh!
What a powerful promise!! I love that because God will strengthen me to get past my fleshly lusts! I am thrilled to not have to do this without the Lord. I have fought my own battles with lust in the past by myself and failed miserably! I still pay consequences for those! Praise the Lord, I have his strength to battle those now!
I should clarify something. When people think about lusts they usually assume you are speaking of a sexual lust. That is one type, but LuStInG is not just that. We can lust about people, food, drink, popularity, worldly possessions, status, money. The list is long. Not one lust is worse than the other in God's eyes. The consequences and effects may differ, but it is all sin!
The word lust means to desire eagerly; to long after; longing desire; eagerness to possess or enjoy;
You may look at something for a brief moment, but to dwell upon it and let it consume your thoughts and actions is where the lusting comes in.
Some of you reading this are struggling with your own lusts now. If you are consumed with someone or a way of life that is not whom or what you are to be consumed with then you are lusting now! You will NeVeR break free from that sin unless you turn from it, stop dwelling upon it and start doing what is right for the Lord NOW! It will be hard. It will not be easy. You may not feel like totally giving it to the Lord and walking away from it. Yes, there are consequences for your lusts (you are probably paying something now), but your life will not have the peace God wants for you unless you live EVERY part of your life for Him!
God has the power and it is available to you. WOW! God's power is available to us to stop the lusting! No matter how hard you might think it is, if you are walking in the Spirit of the Lord you will not fulfill your lusts!
